Why Marketplace is King in Luxury Fashion πŸ‘•πŸ’Ž – Farfetch Yoox Net-A Porter (YNAP) Deal

In this video I dig into Farfetch’s deal to acquire Swiss luxury group Richemont’s 47.5% stake in Yoox Net-a-Porter. Farfetch will have options to acquire the remainder of YNAP. Of note as well is Neiman Marcus Group taking a minority investment into Farfetch a few months back.

This is a great example of linear verses platform business models and the nuance around building a platform in industries with consolidation. I look at comments from Richemont’s chairman and founder Johann Rupert about how despite losing money on YNAP, he’s happy to finally have some skin in the game on a marketplace in luxury fashion.
