DoorDash Employee Delivery – Should Engineers Be Required to Deliver Food? πŸ”

Reports have come out the DoorDash employees are outraged at a company policy that requires all employees to do a food delivery once per month. This policy which reportedly reaches all the way up to CEO Tony Xu, has drawn ire in threads on Blind, an app where employees can post anonymously after verifying employment. DoorDash claims this program has existed since the company started in 2018 and that it is part of philanthropic efforts from the delivery platform.

I think this program is great and these complaints on Blink reek of stereotypical silicon valley entitlement. You could make an argument that once per month is a bit much, but having all levels of the company get hands on with the actual product is never a bad thing. With these complaints coming to light, I think DoorDash could channel former Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh who famously payed unhappy employees bonuses in the thousands to quit rather than keeping disgruntled team members.
