TikTok U.S. Data Accessed by China πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³ | TikTok Tapes Leak

BuzzFeed News has released an exposé highlighting the alarming extent to which China has access to U.S. TikTok user data. Journalists found that recordings of internal calls “contain 14 statements from nine different TikTok employees indicating that engineers in China had access to US data between September 2021 and January 2022”.

While TikTok has claimed that China has no access to U.S. user data, this leak confirms our fears around how the Chinese government is co-opting tech companies to control information not only domestically, but around the world. I think we need to revisit the conversation on whether or not tech controlled by the CCP should be allowed to operate in this country.
