Huawei + ZTE Ban Finalized by U.S. Gov

President Biden has now signed into law the Secure Equipment Act of 2021, a law that will ban federal approvals for companies listed on the Homeland Security Bureau’s list of communications equipment and service providers that are deemed to pose an unacceptable risk to the national security of the United States (AKA Huawei Technologies Company, ZTE Corporation, Dahua Technology Company, Hytera Communications Corporation, and Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Company). Alex discusses this ban’s bipartisan support and explains why he’s frustrated with the media’s lack of coverage here. He goes on to discuss why this is an important move within the tech hardware space and wonders if this will lead to regulation around foreign software like TikTok.
