Applico’s CTO Matt Powers Talks IoT and Wearables

IoT white paper

The Application Developers Alliance’s latest white paper is the beginning of a series designed to help developers understand the many facets of the Internet of Things that are connecting to the Internet.

Applico’s CTO Matt Powers was included in this white paper and provided his perspective on why today’s developers have more tools at their disposal to develop for the IoT than before.

Anybody involved in the early days of mobile remembers that you had to do it yourself. None of the applications or connector protocols were built for you. Now there are tools that make it easier. Developers are well equipped for IoT work that is more at the application level and what is great is that the same mobile development principles apply to IoT.”

Matt also comments on the importance of simplicity in design when developing apps for IoT. Today’s consumer has too many options and if an app is too cumbersome, they’ll walk away. He goes on to mention that he is critical of apps that try to rewrite human behavior for the sake of technology.
